How to Sign Up for Clubhouse

Clubhouse is a new social networking application built around audio conversations. It allows users to create a profile and follow other users around the world, chat with other users in real-time and listen to conversations as they happen. As of this writing, Clubhouse is only available on iPhone, and it's currently in an invite-only state. This means users can only join the app if they receive an invitation from someone who is already using it. If you're interested in signing up for a Clubhouse account, our guide will show you how this is done. Note: These screenshots were captured in the Clubhouse app on iOS. If You Don't Have a Clubhouse Invite If you haven't been invited to Clubhouse, you won't be able to join the app right away. However, you can reserve the username you want to use once you're allowed in. To do this, open the Clubhouse app and tap "Get your username." Clubhouse will let you know by text message if you have any friends that are already using the app who can invite you to join. If You Already Have a Clubhouse Invite If someone has already invited you to join Clubhouse, follow these steps to create your account. Step 1: Open the Clubhouse app and tap "Have an invite text? Sign In." Step 2: Type your phone number and then tap "Next." Note: Your Clubhouse invitation is tied to your phone number, so you need to enter the number that received the invitation. Step 3: Clubhouse will text you a four digit code. Once you receive the text message, enter this code in the app and tap "Next." Step 4: Clubhouse will show you the user who invited you, and you can begin personalizing your profile. If you want to import information from your Twitter profile, tap "Import from Twitter." If you want to enter all of your information manually, tap "Enter my info manually." For this guide, we'll choose "Enter my info manually." Step 5: Clubhouse uses real names to identify its users (though, you will also be able to create a username). Type your first and last name, and then tap "Next." Step 6: Type the username you want to use on the app, and then tap "Next." Step 7: You now have the option of choosing your profile photo. If you want to add a photo now, tap the empty profile photo in the middle of the screen. If you'd rather add a profile photo later, tap "Skip" in the top-right corner of the screen. For this guide, we'll add the profile photo now. Step 8: Tap "Pick from Library" if you want to use an existing photo from your device's camera roll as your profile picture. Or, tap "Take a Photo" to take a new picture. Step 9: Once you've chosen a photo or taken a new one, you'll be able to highlight the portion of the image you want to use as your profile photo. When you're done editing your profile photo, tap "Next" at the bottom of the screen. Step 10: Clubhouse will ask for access to your device's contacts list so that it can find any of your friends that are already using the app. Tap on the example permissions window to bring up the actual permissions window on your device, and then tap "OK" if you want to find your contacts on the app. Step 11: If Clubhouse finds any of your contacts on the app, you will have the chance to follow them. By default, all of your contacts will be selected. If you want to follow all of these contacts, tap "Looks good." Or, if you want to only follow some of your contacts, tap "select individually" to select them one-by-one. Step 12: You can now choose some of your interests so that Clubhouse can recommend more people for you to follow. If you want to do this now, scroll through all of the options and tap your interests. If you want to select your interests later, tap "Skip" at the bottom of the screen. For this guide, we'll select our interests now. Step 13: When you're done selecting one or more interests, tap "Find People" at the bottom of the screen. Step 14: After a few moments, Clubhouse will show you a list of users it suggests you follow. By default, everyone will be selected. If you want to follow everyone Clubhouse recommended, tap "Follow" at the bottom of the screen. Or, if you want to select users individually, tap "select individually" under the Follow button. This will clear all of the selections in the list, and you can tap the users you want to follow one-by-one. Step 15: If you chose to select users individually in Step 14, tap "Follow" at the bottom of the screen when you're done making selections. Step 16: Clubhouse will ask for permission to send you notifications. For instance, you may receive a notification when someone you follow is participating in a chat. To allow Clubhouse to send you notifications, tap the example permissions window to cause the actual permissions window to appear on your device, and then tap "Allow." Now that you've created a Clubhouse account, you can begin using the app and inviting others to use it with you.
