One of the things that has always intrigued me about our country is our kooky, mixed-up relationship to food, a relationship which seems to get wackier with each passing week. There simply is no middle road anymore, it seems, between a life of out-and-out gluttony and the monastic demands of a macrobiotic diet. Take some of this week’s headlines as an example.
