Canva to Cut or Redeploy 22% of Staff Following ‘Hardest Year Yet’

1,271 people will either lose their jobs, be asked to relocate, or change roles amid sluggish growth

Design platform Canva is restructuring its workforce, with 22% of staff facing layoffs, relocations, or role changes as it contends with slowing growth, the company said on Tuesday (3 November).

The restructure will affect 1,271 employees, co-founder and CEO Melanie Perkins said in a corporate blog post.

“After months of thinking through how to set Canva up for the next chapter, we have made the incredibly hard decision to make significant changes to how we’re organized, where some of our teams are based, and the roles and skills we need for the future,” Perkins wrote.

She said the decision followed the “hardest year yet” in the Australian-founded company’s thirteen-year history, which saw Canva’s growth slow for the first time in a decade.
