In its delightfully named column “The Political Whore,” Creative Loafing Tampa notes that a recent issue of The St. Petersburg Times featured an anti-gay religious advertisement right next to coverage of the St. Pete Pride Parade. The ad, by Lighthouse Baptist Church, reportedly said that Hurricane Katrina was sent by God to punish New Orleans for tolerating gays. How could such a statement make it into a newspaper? I’m not asking because of its vile sentiment.
