‘Rules for success’ ads ruled by stupidity

Money-management firm Mawer, based in Calgary, Alberta, has a whole load of these dumb “rules for success.” Others include “Don’t take financial advice from strangers,” “Only invest in companies that make money” and “Discretion is the better part of value.” Unfortunately, Viacom doesn’t have a rule about not accepting irritating billboards. (Of the ad shown here, Mawer’s Web site explains boringly: “The next time someone asks you how your portfolio is faring, you’ll be able to say, “It’s boring – it just keeps on making money.’
