‘Rolling Stone’ mourns rockers’ fate in Italy

This spot for Rolling Stone magazine, via BBDO Milan, has been out for a few months, but it just won a silver Lion at Cannes. It takes an entirely unexpected approach, suggesting Italian politicians have surpassed rock stars as the most sexed-up, drugged-out, hedonistic sleazebags. (Politicians involved in sex and drug scandals? No way!) Luckily, the spot's aimed at the Italian market, so presumably the Berlusconi-weary audience will get the joke. The concept works shockingly well, with the rockers bemoaning their loss of true party-animal status. From the voiceover: "Their wire taps are dirtier than our interviews. Even their mothers are more embarrassed than ours. They are hedonistic whores and seminal superpowers. But what have we become? Little girls to marry. Let's reclaim our alcoholic comas and the stench of passion. … Let's get back to spending winter fucking like rabbits and summer treating our venereal diseases." Who writes this stuff, Tom Ford?
