You know, when the car won’t start, your dog throws up on the rug, and you find out your quantum mechanics lecture has been plagiarized by Australian fashion models? Scott Aaronson, an assistant professor at MIT, was understandably surprised to find that this Aussie printer commercial features some lines lifted directly from Lecture 9 of his “Quantum Computing Since Democritus” course. In the ad, two models debate the nature of quantum mechanics, leading to Ricoh Printers’ payoff line, “A more intelligent model.”
