Printer spot cribs lines from MIT professor

Do you ever have one of those days? You know, when the car won’t start, your dog throws up on the rug, and you find out your quantum mechanics lecture has been plagiarized by Australian fashion models? Scott Aaronson, an assistant professor at MIT, was understandably surprised to find that this Aussie printer commercial features some lines lifted directly from Lecture 9 of his “Quantum Computing Since Democritus” course. In the ad, two models debate the nature of quantum mechanics, leading to Ricoh Printers’ payoff line, “A more intelligent model.” Aaronson told the Sydney Morning Herald that he’s gotten a coolly polite response from the creators of the spot. “I got an e-mail from the company basically saying we apologize and that we contacted a lawyer and our lawyer says we didn’t violate any copyright.”
