What's a state to do when it needs to shore up additional tax dollars? The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue decided to try scaring the hell out of people with dystopian ads like the one below from Neiman Group. The idea was to promote the state's tax amnesty program so delinquents would finally pay up, but deadbeats weren't the only ones seeing the ad. Some viewers accused the responsible parties of Mafia-style intimidation, and Whoopi Goldberg even compared
