This Year's Emmy Nominations Prove Streaming Has Officially Taken Over TV Awards Season

Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+ dominated this year's honorees as once-mighty linear networks came up short

In 2020, the Walt Disney Company had its linear network ABC to thank for 36 Emmy nominations, the biggest single contributor to the company’s overall tally. A year later, though, it’s a whole new world.

Disney+, which collected 19 nominations in 2020—a solid showing for its first year of Emmy eligibility—nearly quadrupled its nomination count to 71 this morning. That’s more nominations than all of Disney’s linear properties combined, and nearly half of the 146 total tally from across the company.
