After near-universal condemnation, actor Peter Fonda has apologized for a tweet suggesting President Trump’s 12-year-old son Barron should be put “in a cage with pedophiles.”

In all caps Tuesday, Fonda wrote, “WE SHOULD RIP BARRON TRUMP FROM HIS MOTHER’S ARMS AND PUT HIM IN A CAGE WITH PEDOPHILES AND SEE IF MOTHER WILL WILL [SIC] STAND UP AGAINST THE GIANT ASSHOLE SHE IS MARRIED TO.”

Through her spokesperson, first lady Melania Trump called the tweet “sick and irresponsible.”
