Jon Nesvig, the dean of network sales chiefs, has announced his retirement, effective at year’s end, Fox Networks has confirmed.

Rumors of Nesvig’s retirement have been circulating for some time; he is 66 and has been in the business for 40 years.

“For the last five years I’ve used every trick I could think of to get Jon to stay,” said Tony Vinciquerra, chairman and CEO, Fox Networks Group. “But when we discussed it recently and he said it was time, I had no arguments left.
