‘Goal!’ may not be very good, but it’ll be good enough

If the only soccer movies you’ve seen (or even heard of) are Victory and Bend It Like Beckham, check out the trailer for Goal!, an upcoming film from Buena Vista. (Smaller version of the trailer is here.) Yes, the plot is riddled with sports clichés. Kid from working-class family gets a shot at the pros, and so on. But in this case, it’s a kid from an immigrant Mexican family in Los Angeles who gets a shot at playing for Newcastle, the storied English soccer club.
