Facebook Has a New VP of Communications for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger

Prior to Uber, Rachel Whetstone spent 10 years at Google

Rachel Whetstone called for a ride away from Uber in April and arrived at Facebook to fill a newly created post.

Whetstone is now vice president of communications for WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, reporting to vp of technology communications Caryn Marooney, Kara Swisher of Recode reported, adding that Whetstone’s primary focus will be WhatsApp.

Prior to Uber, Whetstone spent 10 years at Google, eventually leading its communications and policy unit.

Marooney said in a statement shared with Swisher:

We are thrilled Rachel will be joining us. She brings unique insight and leadership to an already world-class team. We’re excited to work with and learn from Rachel as we manage some of the world’s most interesting communications opportunities.

Whetstone added:

It’s a real privilege to be joining the Facebook family. Products like WhatsApp have become an important part of my life, making it so much easier to stay in touch with my own family and friends.
