The first information I consume in the morning is, “Who do I need to respond to?” and then the news. I turn everything off at 7 o’clock [p.m.], so I don’t answer any emails until the morning. People get really insane with the emails—if you really need me, call me, but don’t email me 50 times and then expect that I’m going to respond instantaneously. I don’t take my gadgets into the bathroom with me! You know how many people do that? And you’re talking to them and then you hear a flush in the background and it’s like, “Wow! I don’t think I needed to know that!” How do you get your news briefings for The View? We all bring stuff that we found or thought of, and [the producers] also give us a packet. The five of us sit together and whittle it down. We don’t talk about everything to death in the makeup room, but everybody has their point of view. And then we start taping, and it’s all ad-lib, baby! You’re on Twitter—what are your other go-to social media platforms? I do Twitter, Vimeo, Instagram. I’m not a Facebooker. I follow as many people as I can—people I know, actors, performers, burlesque people, writers, political people, just interesting folks. Are you a TV junkie? I don’t watch a lot of TV. I do watch Game of Thrones and I like The Following. I like kind of spooky stuff. I play Diablo and World of Warcraft—[laughs] I’m so embarrassed, but I like my video games. They’re good, mindless fun. Have you read the Game of Thrones books? I have. But I’m a visualist, and so I like to see it too. I actually listen to a lot of books because my eyes are kind of weird at the moment. Do you know Audible? I spend a lot of time on there downloading books. What other books have you been listening to? This morning I was listening to Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi. It’s a brilliant book. Fabulous. The book that I’m telling people that they should read is Ready Player One. It takes place 50 years from now when everyone is online playing a game as avatars, and this group of people ends up having to actually meet [in person], and nobody is what you think they are. It’s fantastic. What’s your favorite app? I love Tipulator. It helps you figure out how much of a tip you need to leave. I think it’s one of the smartest apps ever. I was playing Flappy Bird for a while [laughs]. I had to wean myself off of Candy Crush. I’m like, come on, it’s not free! And there’s this farm game that my daughter made me start playing. It’s called Hay Day. How far did you get in Flappy Bird? I got to, like, five. But it took a long time. I was throwing the phone and cussing it out.
