I have a quick look at The New York Times on my laptop while my son is waking up, then I listen to KCRW in the car on the way to the restaurant. They have a show on Saturday mornings called Good Food, so of course I listen to that. What are your go-to social media platforms? Instagram is probably my favorite because it’s so visual. I’m constantly looking at peoples’ dishes. Facebook is great for keeping in touch with my friends and family on the other side of the world. Who do you follow? On Instagram, mainly different chefs and food guys. There’s also a couple of luxury boat people that I follow because I dream about having one someday, although I’m not sure that’s a reality. You’re going to think I’m saying this because he’s on [Top Chef] with me, but Hugh Acheson is hilarious on Twitter. What’s your favorite app? This is where it gets embarrassing. I don’t use a whole lot of apps, to be honest. I have Uber and that’s about it. I’m far from a tech genius. I have the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Thomas the Tank Engine for my son, so I guess I can mention those, too. What’s on your reading list? Secrets of the Baby Whisperer is the book that I’m in the middle of right now because we have another baby on the way. I’m also reading René Redzepi’s Noma book, from the great restaurant in Scandinavia. As far as mags go, I read a couple of Aussie mags—there’s one called Gourmet Traveller—and I read Food & Wine, Bon Appétit, Saveur. What TV shows do you watch? I’m usually in the restaurant until after midnight, so I’ll watch a bit of late-night TV. Craig Ferguson is one of my favorites. And other than that, it’s a real mixture. My wife watches a lot of dramas and scripted stuff—Sons of Anarchy is one that I’ve gotten into. I also like a couple of trashy things, like Cops or Dog the Bounty Hunter. I don’t even know if they’re even making new episodes of that anymore. We’ve also gotten sucked into the Real Housewives of you name it. Those are shows that you have to watch once in a while to make yourself feel really normal. Have you met any of the Real Housewives? Oh my god, of course, because I have a Bravo show. When we get together for the upfronts or to shoot the promos, I walk in there and there’s the housewives from Atlanta and Beverly Hills and New York, and then there’s the Millionaire Matchmaker, and there’s Jeff Lewis and his crew. And I think to myself, “What am I doing here?!” But once you actually get together with them, they’re actually pretty sane and pretty normal. How do you wind down before bed? I don’t. I’ve gotten into this horrible habit of not winding down, so I just lay in bed and stare at the ceiling. But I’ve been running at a pretty intense pace, so I’m happy to be laying down whenever I can.
