Said Nate, our favorite blogger at PIPodcast, “I just wish Ellen would stay off these reality shows.” Right on, Nate! As for the latest winner, congratulations Lauren Froderman. As I complained all season, Mary Murphy was sorely missed (and was very under-utilized) last night. Mia Michaels is just too plain dull to be on every week. Second-place CBS got off to a dominant start, with the live Big Brother eviction show tying So You Think You Can Dance at a 4.9/ 8 in the overnights at 8 p.m. Now that Rachel is gone, her better (or dumber) half Brendon will have to win HOH. Will he accomplish that feat? Tune in on Sunday. Next on CBS were repeats of CSI (#2: 4.3/ 7) and The Mentalist (#1: 4.9/ 8) from 9-11 p.m. As I have said on many occasions, I personally predict CSI and The Mentalist will flip time periods in midseason. Over at ABC, already renewed Canadian crime drama Rookie Blue was its top-rated show, with a third-place (and below average) 4.1/ 7 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered a repeat of lead-in Wipeout (#3: 3.8/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by eight percent (but it is unlikely to beat it among adults 18-49). At 10 p.m., the season-finale of Boston Med finished second with a 3.3/ 5. ABC may want to reduce the number of newsmagazines it airs next summer given the overall lack of interest. Elsewhere, NBC was in all repeats with its combination of Community (#4: 2.1/ 4), which is not strong enough to continue to anchor Thursday next season, 30 Rock (#4: 2.0/ 3), The Office (#4: 2.2/ 4), Parks and Recreation (#4: 1.8/ 3) and Law & Order: SVU (#3: 2.5/ 4). And The CW capped off the night with repeats of The Vampire Diaries (#5: 0.9/ 2) and former CBS drama Moonlight (#5: 1.0/ 2). Lead-out Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, had its greatest advantage in the demo over CBS’ competing Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 16 weeks.
