Say Media Forms ‘Directory for Marketers’

Say Media, an upstart formed last fall when VideoEgg acquired Six Apart, has amassed a list of 100 smart and influential media voices who the company hopes will become prominent Web publishers and marketing advocates.

Say Media formed the list, dubbed Say 100, after lining up 10 notable names from the media world and asking them to identify 10 other influencers in a given content vertical. For example, Jane Pratt of Jane and Sassy named 10 individuals from the style world like blogger Tavi Gevinson of Author Seth Godin has lined up 10 voices from the business world, while Dana Wood of tapped parenting experts, and Stuart Miles of got leading technology opinion makers to participate.

Other categories in the Say 100 are food, gaming, home and design, and entertainment.

At the moment, Say 100 is just a list of smart and influential people, but Say Media’s hope is to turn it into a powerful marketing channel. According to Say Media president Troy Young, as the company evolves from a network and publishing platform to become more of a media company, the Say 100 roster will begin producing original content that will populate yet-to-be-launched media properties on the Web.

“The Say 100 is a core group of people in each vertical that can really be a directory for marketers,” said Young.

Say Media will leverage its list to create custom marketing programs for brands. (For instance, mommy bloggers create a video series around breastfeeding for a major packaged-goods manufacturer.)
