Mediaweek TV: History Taps Matt Damon for Telefilm

Liberals, take note: Christmas comes early this year, when the History channel premieres its new telefilm The People Speak. Debuting Sunday, Dec. 13, at 8 p.m.(est), the movie is based on the classic liberal tome A People’s History of the United States, by Howard Zinn.
With an A-List of actors reading historical texts and letters by real Americans who, in their lifetimes, actually struggled and fought for democracy, the film offers an historical view of America, from the perspective of the underdog.
Oh, and those A-List actors might have been persuaded to participate by one of Zinn’s friends, and former neighbors, Matt Damon, who is an executive producer on the series.
Mediaweek correspondent Alan Frutkin talks with Zinn and Damon about the movie’s origins and the lasting impact of the book on which it is based.
