The Hub Hires a New CMO

NFL Network vet Kaplan to oversee marketing at kids' network

Discovery Communications' joint venture with Hasbro, The Hub, has tapped Dena Kaplan to join its team as the company's new chief marketing officer. Kaplan hails from NFL Network and will report to Hub president and CEO Margaret Loesch; the appointment will be effective late this month after Kaplan wraps up her tenure as svp of marketing at NFL Net.

The Hub is currently Hasbro's steadiest entertainment asset; with the next Transformers film two years off, Battleship capsized at the box office, and G.I. Joe remanded to the editing bay until 2013, it's television that's showing the most reliable growth. The kids' network logged a 38 percent uptick year-on-year in kids 2-11 during Q2 of 2012 and a 21 percent gain in kids 6-11. Properties at The Hub include a new Transformers cartoon overseen by the film's screenwriters, cult favorite My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and a new incarnation of the Care Bears.

“As we expand the reach of The Hub brand, she is the ideal choice to take us into the future," said Loesch in a release. "Of particular value to us as an emerging network will be her skills in developing marketing initiatives to support Discovery’s affiliate marketing team and their drive to continue to build distribution.”
