Despite disappointing ratings and rumors of impending cancelation for AMC's Low Winter Sun, writer Rolin Jones is getting another pilot order from the network, this one a little less dour, in keeping with Jones' roots on Showtime dramedy The United States of Tara.

Knifeman, from Jones (who has a first-look deal with AMC), follows John Tattersal, an unlicensed surgeon who operates, literally and figuratively, out of his home. The show is based on Wendy Moore's biography of a similar figure, John Hunter, called The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching and the Birth of Modern Surgery.
