The Duffer Brothers announced their new production company, Upside Down Pictures, along with their slate of film and television projects with Netflix.
Matt and Ross Duffer, who are behind the mega-successful series Stranger Things, will expand their partnership with the streaming platform by bringing more science-fiction and fantasy-themed projects. In active development are a live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime series Death Note, an original series from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), a series adaptation of the Talisman and a stage play set within the world of Stranger Things, which is produced by Sonia Friedman and Stephen Daldry (The Crown, Billy Elliot, The Reader). In addition, the Duffer Brothers recently confirmed a Stranger Things spinoff series.
In a statement released by Netflix, the Duffer Brothers said they would aim to create the kind of stories that influenced them in their childhood, where heart wins out over cynicism.
The current season of Stranger Things recently surpassed over 1 billion streaming viewing hours and has remained on Netflix’s Top 10 list in 93 countries.
