Lower ratings and a decline in direct-response advertising dollars put a dent in Crown Media’s second-quarter results, as Hallmark Channel’s ad sales revenues fell 8 percent to $51.9 million, down from $56.6 million in the year-ago period.

Affiliate revenue at Hallmark Channel helped offset the ad sales decline to some degree, as sub fees grew 9 percent to $15.9 million, up from $14.6 million in the prior-year period. Overall, Crown Media revenue fell 5 percent to $68.2
