Mulder and Scully Are Returning for The X-Files Miniseries
Twitter users want to believe in Fox reboot

Special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are back! Actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have agreed to reprise their iconic roles for an upcoming six-episode reboot of The X-Files on Fox.
"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," series creator and executive producer Chris Carter said in a release on the show's newly updated website, which still looks like it belongs in the 1990s. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
The miniseries will start filming this summer, but an air date has yet to be announced.
The X-Files still holds the distinction of being the longest running sci-fi series on network television. It gained a loyal cult following during its nine-season run between 1993 and 2002 and inspired a generation of conspiracy theorists and alien believers. While the supernatural drama never cracked the top 10 shows while it aired, it was Fox's highest rated show at times, averaging almost 20 million viewers an episode at its peak, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On top of fan conventions, books and other merchandise, it produced two feature films: The X-Files, in 1998, and the better-forgotten The X-Files: I Want to Believe, in 2008. In addition, it spawned a spinoff series called The Lone Gunmen, which eerily predicted the Sept. 11 attacks before getting prematurely canceled.
X-Files became the No. 1 trend on Twitter shortly after Tuesday's announcement, with many people poking fun at the lackluster final seasons and 2008 movie, as well as speculating how the show could update the series for modern audiences.
Even though it ended badly when #XFiles drunk-dialed me back in '08, I still couldn't ignore the "'sup?" it texted me this morning
