The networks on Tuesday night presented a Whitman’s Sampler of new and returning series, and while the ever-popular varieties were predictably gobbled up, some novelty flavors were nibbled and discarded.

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, CBS got the night started with some sweet ratings candy, drawing 20.5 million viewers and a 4.1 rating in the 18-49 demo with the 10th season premiere of NCIS.

After finishing the 2011-12 campaign as the most-watched scripted program on TV, NCIS showed no signs of slowing down, torching the 8 p.m.
