FX is throwing down for a second season of its improv comedy series The League, ordering an additional run of 13 episodes.

The sophomore season will kick off in the third quarter of 2010, said Nick Grad, executive vp of original programming, FX Networks.

Through its first five episodes, The League is averaging 1.06 million total viewers and 863,000 adults 18-49. Episode five (Dec. 3) was the most-watched of the bunch, drawing 1.68 million viewers in a three-run cume––a 69 percent improvement over the Oct. 29 premiere.

Season one wraps tonight (Dec. 10) at 10:30 p.m. EST.

“We’ve been very pleased with the creative and ratings trajectory of The League and believe it’s an excellent fit with our comedy brand,” Grad said, by way of announcing the renewal.

The series was created by the husband-and-wife team of Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Jackie Marcus Schaffer (Disturbia, EuroTrip). Both also serve as executive producers. Among the ensemble cast are: Mark Duplass (Pete), Stephen Rannazzisi (Kevin), Nick Kroll (Ruxin), Paul Scheer (Andre), Katie Aselton (Jenny), Nadine Velazquez (Sofia) and Jon Lajoie (Taco).

The League is produced by FX Productions.
