I also enjoy Instagram because I can keep up with my friends and send them a million memes every other day. I rifle through a ton of them, and this one is very active online and creates memes for different placements in your birth chart, from your sun sign to your Mercury sign to your Venus sign. As a trans woman—who are rarely seen onscreen, let alone in a leading role—what does it mean to star in a film as your authentic self?It means the world to me. Every day, I’ve received messages from different trans people thanking me for Kelsa and Anything’s Possible. It’s unfortunate that so many different groups of people rarely, if ever, get to see ourselves reflected back at us in film and television. We live in a world full of various types of people. The art we consume should be more representative of that, and luckily, this project is a sign of that becoming a reality. Anything’s Possible is Billy Porter’s directorial debut. He’s over-the-top glamorous in his fashion, voice and acting—what was he like as a director?Billy is a very intuitive director. He has a very succinct vision, and he knows exactly what needs to be done in order to execute that vision. Billy ensures confidence in everyone around him, and he certainly instilled a better sense of confidence in me. Working with him was very collaborative, and it’s easily the best learning experience of my life. I’ll cherish that time forever. What do you hope people will take away from Anything’s Possible?I hope people take away a better and fuller idea of love. There’s so much tragedy and sadness in the world, but this is a movie all about joy. That’s something to celebrate and learn from. Do you have a favorite romantic comedy?I’m a hopeless romantic, so I love rom-coms. I’m also a Gemini, so it’s hard to decide on just one thing. My favorite romantic comedies are movies my mom played growing up, which include Something New, Love Don’t Cost a Thing and Brown Sugar. Name something you’re loving right now.I’ve been obsessed with Severance lately. I love a good thriller sci-fi, but this show is practically its own genre. It's so good. The acting, the set design, the premise—it’s one of the most exciting pieces of content I’ve seen in a long time, and I’m a television/film fanatic, so that’s saying a lot. I really enjoy that I never know what’s coming next. Even with all the wild twists and turns, it’s still really easy to follow. Maintaining that balance between pace and constant suspense is no easy feat, but this show does it well.
