RadioShack Makes a Retro-Centric Comeback

The century-old brand has found a new niche in old-school speakers and radios

After three years under new ownership, RadioShack has found its footing in retro-themed electronics.

RadioShack franchisee Unicomer Group—based in El Salvador—bought the RadioShack brand from previous owner Retail Ecommerce Ventures in 2023, Retail Dive reported at the time.

Retail Ecommerce Ventures had purchased the brand in 2020, two years after its second bankruptcy. At its peak, the company had more than 7,000 stores, according to USA Today.

Now, the company has 170 authorized dealers that sell RadioShack products and is primarily an online business. Under the current ownership, the company has seen overwhelming demand for retro products that mimic those of RadioShack’s former house brand, Realistic.
