Jon Cook Steps Down as VML and WPP Creative Boss, Eric Campbell to Succeed

Cook spent three decades at VML and helped WPP's transformation from the top

ADWEEK House: Advertising HQ brings the people shaping advertising, commerce, and media together for four days of unscripted conversations and after-hours connections. Meet us in Midtown, Oct. 5–8.

Jon Cook, the global CEO of VML and WPP Creative, is leaving the holding company after three decades to pursue the “next chapter” of his career, according to a release.

Eric Campbell, the current North America CEO of VML and WPP Creative, will succeed him as global CEO of VML, while retaining his North American remit with WPP Creative.

Cook will remain in his role until March 2027, allowing for a “seamless” transition for Campbell, the release said. He described the decision as one of the most difficult he’s had to make.

“After three decades of pouring everything I have into this agency and all of WPP,” Cook said, “it is time to build something new.”
