WhatsApp reached a milestone this week, topping 900 million monthly active users.

The Facebook-owned cross-platform messaging application reached 800 million MAUs in April, 700 million MAUs and 30 billion messages per day in January and 500 million MAUs in April 2014.

WhatsApp co-founder and Facebook board member Jan Koum broke the news in a Facebook post, simply stating:

WhatsApp now has 900 million monthly active users.

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg then chimed in:

Congrats to Jan, the WhatsApp team and whole community on reaching 900 million people!

And chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg shared a humorous photo of her and Koum, along with her congratulations:

900 million people now use WhatsApp every month to stay in touch with family and friends around the world. Congratulations to Jan Koum and everyone at WhatsApp on reaching this incredible milestone–and for still finding time to make us all laugh.

Readers: When do you think WhatsApp will top 1 billion MAUs?
