‘White Room: 02B3’ Interactive Film by Roddenberry 360° Hits Mobile

The app allows users to rotate their view 360 degrees in real time, without interrupting the film.

Star Trek company Roddenberry Entertainment has announced its partnership with Immersive Media to create a new kind of interactive entertainment for mobile and VR devices: Roddenberry 360°. The partnership will see the pair create original content, as well as provide ‘expertise and services to outside projects.’

The first entertainment project from Roddenberry 360° is White Room: 02B3, a short film created and shot specifically for 360 degree viewing on VR or mobile devices. The film is available via a standalone app on iOS and Android, with a version for Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift coming in the future.

White Room: 02B3 follows six strangers who find themselves trapped in a white room as participants in a psychological experiment. The film stars Breckin Meyer, Tamlyn Tomita, David Blue, Rachel True and Doug Jones, as well as internet personalities Tony Janning and Milynn Sarley.

The app offers the film in both traditional and 360 viewing formats, with the latter allowing users to rotate their device (or scroll with their finger) to focus on different characters in the round room, without pausing or interrupting the film’s progression. Immersive Media suggests users view the film in the traditional format first, before moving to the 360 degree experience.

In addition to the film, the app offers special features, including ‘behind the scenes’ content and cast information.

In a statement, Trevor Roth, COO and head of development at Roddenberry Entertainment, commented:

Immersive Media is a leader in 360° technology and we are proud to partner with them on this new initiative. Roddenberry Entertainment strives to be on the forefront of innovation and we believe that this partnership will continue that legacy.

White Room: 02B3 is now available to download for $2.99 on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and the Samsung Galaxy Apps store.
