A new report from analytics platform App Annie revealed the top Google Play games and applications of all time in terms of downloads and revenue. The report showed that games was the No. 1 overall category for both downloads and revenue, accounting for approximately 40 percent of total all-time downloads and approximately 90 percent of total all-time revenue.
The report showed that Subway Surfers is the top game of all-time on Google Play in terms of total worldwide downloads. Subway Surfers was followed by Candy Crush Saga and Pou in second and third place, respectively. App Annie’s data spanned from January 2012 through March 2016.
While Subway Surfers leads in downloads, the report showed that Puzzle & Dragons is the the top Google Play game of all time in terms of total worldwide revenue. Clash of Clans and Monster Strike came in second and third place, respectively.
App Annie said four of the top 10 games by worldwide revenue—Puzzle & Dragons, Monster Strike, Disney Tsum Tsum and The World of Mystic Wiz—”were driven almost entirely by store revenue in Japan.”
When looking at apps rather than games, Facebook, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are the top three Google Play apps of all-time in terms of total worldwide downloads. For worldwide revenue, Line, Line Play and Line Manga are the top three Google Play apps of all-time.
