In a surprising coup for ad junkies, this month's Esquire devotes an impressive two and a half pages to Tom Kuntz, director of instant commercial classics like Old Spice's "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" and Skittles' "Beard." The profile examines how Kuntz manages to transcend quirkiness to create ads that are half modern art and half marketing gold. And like his spiritual predecessors Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry, Kuntz is apparently ready to get behind the camera for a full motion picture. "He is currently developing his first feature, a film noir that he'll describe only as surrealistic," Esquire notes. "And then there are plans for a television show based on his Web short 'Santasm,' about a small man sucking on a fat man's nipple." If the latter appears anywhere but Adult Swim, it will truly prove that Kuntz can sell anything to anybody.
