Reports: NBC’s Leno Returning to Original Time Period?

Buzz was circulating aplenty yesterday over a report on TMZ that The Jay Leno Show on NBC will exit the prime-time airwaves after the Friday, Jan. 29 telecast. 

Leno is expected to return to his former 11:35 p.m. nightly time period after the Olympics in a half-hour version, followed by a full hour of Conan O’Brien at 12:05 a.m. and Jimmy Fallon at 1:05 a.m. What that means for NBC weeknights at 10 p.m. is uncertain.  NBC has not confirmed these rumors.

As for The Jay Leno Show, one of the biggest gambles in the history of prime time, what follows is a ratings track by week that only proves what a major disappointment this strip has been. Given the early sampling, there is no way to put a positive spin on these results. Viewers came, and they went.

Even if Leno heads back to late night, the damage is done and there is no reason to believe results will equal prior levels.
