News Corp. Builds Out Government Relations Team

With media, Internet and advertising under greater scrutiny on Capitol Hill, News Corp. is ramping up its presence in Washington, D.C., under the watchful eye of Michael Regan, evp, government affairs.

Joining the News Corp. team are Kathy Ramsey and Kristopher Jones in newly created positions. Ramsey will serve as vp of government affairs. Jones was named director of government affairs. In addition, News Corp. promoted Bill Guidera and David Fares to svps.

Both Ramsey and Jones have deep connections in the broadcasting business. Ramsey was most recently partner at The Fritts Group, headed by former National Association of Broadcasters president Eddie Fritts. She was also the former evp of public affairs for the NAB. Jones comes to News Corp. directly from the NAB, where he served as vp of media relations.

One of the issues at the top of News Corp.’s agenda is retransmission consent reform, which the Federal Communications Commission promised to take up this year. News Corp. chairman and COO Chase Carey is already a familiar face on the Hill, testifying in November before the Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet.
