With J.J. Abrams serving as executive producer, NBC’s new spy series Undercovers should have launched strong.

But its first two Wednesday night broadcasts have underperformed, drawing 8.7 million viewers, and a 2.1/6 among 18-49 viewers in its premiere broadcast Sept. 22, and then dropping to 7.2 million viewers and a 1.6/5 among 18-49 viewers the following week.

As the network also struggles with its Monday night lineup—including conspiracy drama The Event and FBI drama Chase—it’s unlikely that NBC can afford to pull such a high-profile series as Undercovers.
