Buys Prime-Time Cable

A Web site that allows prospective college students to take virtual tours of campuses is making its first national TV buy, investing $500,000 in a cable push that begins today (Feb. 23). will run prime-time and early fringe spots on ESPN and three cable news networks, including Fox News Channel (The O’Reilly Factor), CNN and CNBC (Mad Money, The Suze Ormond Show). The spots, which feature voiceovers recorded by President Barack Obama, are slated to run throughout the next 10 weeks.

The three 30-second spots were created by The Pere Partnership, the New York agency founded by CEO Glenn Pere.

In one of the ads, President Obama advises students that a college degree remains the best investment an American can make. “There’s a million-dollar difference between the lifetime earnings of somebody who got a high school education and a college education,” Obama says. “Stick with it. Because the costs of not staying in school and not keeping your grades up are so much greater.” offers video from 176 universities across the country, from Adelphi to Youngstown State. Videos provide insights from matriculating students, with topics ranging from academics to off-campus activities.   

“This is an extraordinarily difficult time in all of our lives, with seemingly surreal and painful circumstances,” Pere said. “We feel it is more important than ever before for the youth of this country to not only get a college education, but make sure they pick the right college.”
