Netflix Books a Third Season of Orange Is the New Black

Laura Prepon breaks the news on Instagram

It’s back to the slammer for Netflix, as the streaming service has renewed its prison dramedy Orange Is the New Black for a third season.

Netflix has ordered another run of 13 episodes of Jenji Kohan’s show, which is based on the Piper Kerman memoir of the same title.

Star Laura Prepon broke the news earlier this afternoon, posting the following text to her Instagram account: “It’s official!! Season 3!! #oitnb #alexvause #backtothebighouse.” Prepon included a photo of a white board onto which possible titles for Season 3 episodes had been scrawled in Sharpie.

Among the more quotable title options include “I’m a Bitch Because I’m Sad” and “Never-Ending Rumspringa.” The Orange writing staff also posted the photo via its Twitter feed.

While Prepon’s profile will be greatly diminished in the upcoming season—her character, Alex Vause, will appear in just four of the 13 episodes—the actress is believed to have re-upped for a much more intensive on-screen run in Season 3.

Along with Prepon, Orange stars Taylor Schilling (Piper Chapman), Kate Mulgrew (Red), Natasha Lyonne (Nicky Nichols) and Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes).

Season 2 of Orange is set to roll out on Friday, June 6. The trailer dropped about two and a half weeks ago.

Although Netflix does not disclose its “ratings,” anecdotal evidence suggests that Orange is the streaming service’s most popular original series, besting the Beau Willimon Beltway drama, House of Cards.
