Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg have largely managed to avoid appearing in front of legislators both in the U.S. and abroad despite a myriad of controversies and requests for the presence of the company’s two most public faces. This week, that responsibility shifted to someone with considerable experience in those matters.
Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post Wednesday that vice president of global affairs and communications Nick Clegg has been promoted to president, global affairs.
Clegg will report directly to Zuckerberg and Sandberg.
Zuckerberg noted the need for a senior leader at the same level as himself for products and Sandberg for the company’s business, saying in his post, “Nick will now lead our company on all our policy matters, including how we interact with governments as they consider adopting new policies and regulations, as well as how we make the case publicly for our products and our work.”
