Zynga CFO David Wehner Joins Facebook

By David Cohen

Scuffling game developer Zynga announced four executive promotions, along with the departure of Chief Financial Officer David Wehner, who is leaving Zynga to join Facebook as vice president, corporate finance and business planning.

Chief Accounting Officer Mark Vranesh was promoted to CFO, succeeding Wehner. The other promotions at Zynga were:

  • David Ko was promoted to chief operations officer, from chief mobile officer.
  • Barry Cottle was elevated to chief revenue officer, from executive VP, business and corporate development.
  • Steven Chiang was promoted to president of games, from executive VP of games.

The promotions and Wehner’s departure follow the company’s announcement last month that it was laying off more than 100 employees and closing its studio in Boston.

Zynga Founder and CEO Mark Pincus said:

Dave remains a good friend to us all, and we wish him success in his next role. Mark, David, Barry, and Steve are rooted in our culture, committed to our future, and part of the talented bench of leadership at Zynga. I’m confident that we have the right team to deliver on our mission of connecting the world through games and position us for long-term growth.

Wehner added:

I have greatly enjoyed working closely with Mark Pincus and the rest of the team. The time I spent at Zynga has been an exciting chapter in my career as we led the rapid development of social gaming. Mark Vranesh and I have been close partners during my tenure at Zynga, and I wish my colleagues well as the company continues to deliver on its vision.
