Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg To Host Fundraiser For N.J. Gov. Chris Christie

Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will host a fundraiser for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at his home in Palo Alto next month, BuzzFeed reported.

According to BuzzFeed, the two men first met in 2010, when Zuckerberg donated $100 million to public schools in Newark, N.J., and they appeared on “Oprah” with Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

BuzzFeed added that Zuckerberg, Christie, and Booker have collaborated on a local education agenda, and Christie strategist Michael DuHaime told BuzzFeed Zuckerberg approached Christie’s campaign about helping the governor win another term in office.

Facebook Spokeswoman Sarah Feinberg told BuzzFeed:

Mark and Priscilla have worked closely with Gov. Christie on education reform in the Newark school system. They admire his leadership on education reform and other issues and look forward to continuing their important work together on behalf of Newark’s school children. Mark and Priscilla are happy to host him at their home to support his re-election.

And DuHaime added:

Mark and Priscilla expressed interest in supporting the governor for re-election, and he’s gratified to have their help. This illustrates that Gov. Christie’s sincere efforts to improve education where it is so badly needed have not gone unnoticed. Education is an issue Gov. Christie cares deeply and passionately about, even though fighting for education reform has not always been politically popular or easy.
