Irony at its best: On the same day that Facebook users are lashing out about another change to the social network’s privacy settings, the San Jose Mercury News reported that Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg spent more than $30 million to buy four homes that are adjacent to his residence in Palo Alto, Calif., in the interest of protecting his own privacy.
In fairness to Zuckerberg, a source told the Mercury News that his real estate shopping spree was prompted by a developer’s plans to use him as a marketing tool, saying:
The developer was going to build a huge house and market the property as being next door to Mark Zuckerberg.
The newspaper added that Zuckerberg will lease the homes he purchased back to the families who currently live there.
According to the Mercury News, which cited Silicon Valley Business Journal, Iconiq Capital, which handles Zuckerberg’s financial affairs, purchased the house directly behind Zuckerberg’s in December, following that up by buying two more behind Zuckerberg’s house and one next door in September.
