YouTube Rolls Out New App For PlayStation 3, Complete With Smartphone Remote

By Megan O'Neill

YouTube has been available on PlayStation 3 for quite some time, but today the video site is rolling out a whole new experience for the gaming console–a new dedicated YouTube app.  PS3 gamers in North America can look forward to “a completely new experience, designed for the big screen and PS3 controls.”  The new app is available for free in the PlayStation Store.

YouTube product manager Sarah Ali goes over the new YouTube PS3 app features on the YouTube blog:

  • The search field makes finding videos a whole lot easier, including “search suggestions and instant video results while you type.”
  • Sign in and you can find and watch the latest videos from all your YouTube subscriptions, now including official music videos.
  • You can use your smartphone as a remote!  Ali writes, “With a quick pairing process, you can control YouTube on PS3 with a smartphone.  Find a video on your phone and with a button it’ll play on the big screen.  While the video is playing you can control it from the phone, or keep browsing YouTube for the next one.”

Do you have a PS3?  If you do, and you try out the new YouTube app, we’d love to hear what you think about the new version!  Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
