Voice calling via WhatsApp for Android launched in March.

The “What’s New in Version 2.12.1” section of WhatsApp’s App Store page reads:

WhatsApp Calling: Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country. WhatsApp calls use your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges may apply. Note: WhatsApp Calling is rolling out slowly over the next several weeks.

Other new features in the updated WhatsApp iOS app include:

  • An iOS 8 share extension that allows users to share photos, videos and links directly to WhatsApp from other apps.
  • A quick camera button was added to chats.
  • Contacts can be edited directly from WhatsApp.
  • Multiple videos can be sent simultaneously.
  • Photos can be cropped and rotated before sending.
