Walmart Nabs OneRiot to Bolster Walmartlabs

It will be interesting to see how Walmart develops its social shopping network with the team for OneRiot now aboard. The largest retailer in the country is known for its great savings for shoppers. But of late, it is developing a strong online presence with recent acquisitions of online advertising companies.

Walmart just nabbed OneRiot for its technology unit called Walmartlabs.  Walmart labs is the Silicon Valley unit established after the retailers’s acquisition of Kosmix.

The Boulder, Colorado based company began in the real-time search space and evolved into a mobile advertising network based on social data. The reason OneRiot made the switch is because real-time search space faded-out when social networks like Twitter surfaced.

The OneRiot team will join WalmartLabs, Walmart’s focal point for the creation of new technologies.
