This Week In Viral Videos – Obama, Banksy & The Return Of The Old Spice Parody

By Megan O'Neill Comment

Happy Friday, viral video fans! Just in time for the weekend we’ve put together a list of our favorite viral videos of the week. This week the Old Spice parody made a comeback with 2 great new spoofs, the Simpsons were taken over by Banksy, New York was taken over by Improv Everywhere and someone threw a book at President Obama (huh?!). Check out all the videos below and end your workweek with a smile!

Sesame Street: Smell Like A Monster

Old Spice parodies were flooding the web back in July, following the tails of the successful Old Spice response campaign. However, we haven’t seen many new Old Spice parodies go viral for a while…until this week, that is. The first Old Spice parody to go viral this week was a Sesame Street video, ‘Smell Like A Monster’, in which Grover talks about the word ‘on’. The video already has over 4.2 million views and it has only been online for about a week.

Will It Blend? – Old Spice

Blendtec released an Old Spice parody of their own this week, featuring the guy from the Harold B. Lee Library ‘Study Like a Scholar, Scholar’ Old Spice spoof. The Will It Blend? Old Spice video has been viewed 239,238 times within the first three days. We’ll have to wait and see if it takes off, or if Blendtec is a little late on the uptake in the Old Spice parody department.

Book Thrown At President Obama

This week another video has been circulating the internet, with 1.5 million views in five days, featuring someone throwing a book at President Obama. Obama wasn’t hit, and I’m not entirely convinced from the clip that he was trying to hit Obama with the book. According to CNN, “the person involved was an overzealous author who just wanted to toss his book into the president’s reading list.”

The Mp3 Experiment Seven

This week Improv Everywhere released their seventh Mp3 Experiment video. Over 3,000 participants downloaded an mp3 file, put it on their iPods and mp3 players, started playing it at exactly the same time in the middle of New York city and the results are awesome. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out below.

Banksy Simpsons Intro

Infamous graffiti artist Banksy had everyone talking this week when The Simpsons aired an episode with a Banksy-designed intro. Nobody knows exactly who Banksy is or what he looks like, but The Simpsons got a hold of him for this special project, which is a little bit shocking. Have you seen it yet? What’s your take on Banksy’s dark, depressing intro?

Fantastic real Candid Camera: the 1cent Experiment

And just as a bonus this week we’re throwing in a cool new “Candid Camera” flashmob. In Rome, performers placed a one-cent coin on the ground in a crowded area of the city. They waited for someone to pick it up and, when someone finally did, she got the surprise of her life!
