The Simpsons: Tapped Out: Tap Ball Comes to Springfield

The update sees players competing in Homer's new sport while unlocking prizes for their town.

In honor of the Women’s World Cup, EA Mobile has updated The Simpsons: Tapped Out with a major sports-themed content update. The update sees Homer create his own sport, Tap Ball, which gamers can play to unlock various prizes.

As players begin this Tap Ball quest series, they’ll construct the Grass Field and Stadium Entrance, with the Grass Field hosting the actual games of Tap Ball. Players receive Referee Homer, Soccer Lisa and Pin Pal Apu costumes to start the event, while additional sports outfits can be unlocked for Bart and Marge (among others) over time.

Players have access to only single-player Tap Ball games to start, which see them selecting four characters to face the computer-controlled team. For instance, at the start of the event, players will have Ned, Homer, Apu and Lisa available for their team, with each character having a different star rating.

During each round of Tap Ball, each team automatically selects a single character, with the two facing off in the center of the Grass Field. The game compares the characters’ star ratings, and the character with the higher rating wins the round. In the event of a tie, a coin toss decides the winner.

Gamers have access to two boosts while playing. One allows users to switch to another character when their current character is too weak (or perhaps too strong) for their opponent, while the other gives the active character a temporarily higher star rating.

After each game, players win Amateur Bucks and Foam Fingers, this event’s currencies. Characters must recharge in between games, or players can spend their Amateur Bucks on Obesotade to instantly refresh them.

Amateur Bucks can also be earned by sending characters on specific jobs, and can be used to upgrade characters to higher star levels so they can successfully defeat stronger opponents.

Like other major events in The Simpsons: Tapped Out, the Tap Ball update is split into three timed acts, each offering different prizes. Gamers earn these rewards, like decorations and new characters for their team, by collecting Foam Fingers in bulk. Thankfully, players can collect additional Foam Fingers by tapping on the fans who randomly spawn in their towns. Players will also eventually unlock access to multiplayer Tap Ball games.

Finally, players can purchase new decorations, buildings and a football costume for Nelson in the store. As of this writing, these items all cost Donuts to purchase, and will only be available for a limited time.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. The Tap Ball event is scheduled to end in 27 days.
