Charmtech Labs has announced an upgrade to its Capti Narrator platform on mobile devices. The cross-platform iOS app offers “hands-free consumption” of digital content, and has transitioned from a paid app to a free one alongside the addition of new features.
Capti Narrator allows users to listen to content, freeing their hands and eyes from their device’s screen. Users can create a Capti Playlist of content, with support for adding content from browsers, Dropbox, Google Drive or Clipboard.
Charmtech Labs has partnered with Ivona, Acapela Group and NeoSpeech for additional voices, with support for over two dozen English voices in American, British, Australian or Indian accents. These premium voices can be tried for free, or unlocked with real money (voices cost between $1.99 and $5.99).[contextly_sidebar id=”4afb7f99276ff2eaae2fcd4c0fe0f647″]Capti offers a built-in web browser for discovering new content. Users can tap and hold any link to add it to their playlist without having to actually open up the webpage, and a separate “Links” button can be used to transform a web page into a list of links that can be easily added.
Capti supports multiple file types, including PDF, DOC, PPT, EPUB and RTF files. Its newest update promises better accuracy for content, as well as overall better app performance for users, along with the ability to sync playlists across devices.
“In the world that is overwhelmed with information, people now spend numerous hours in front of the computer screen. Even on the go, they often feel the urge to read from the small screens of smart-phones, but they are still unable to keep up with the flood of information,” said Dr. Yevgen Borodin, President and CEO of Charmtech Labs, in a statement.
“Imagine that instead of reading from the screen, you could listen to anything you needed to read using a convenient playlist interface. You could listen on the go: in the gym, in the car, in the subway, on the plane, or on the couch.”
Capti Narrator is now available to download for free on iOS. The company is working on Windows and Mac versions of the platform, provided as browser extensions through Firefox. You can follow the iOS app on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
