Talk Show Launches On Tumblr Shot Entirely On iPhones…By The Guests

By Megan O'Neill

What happens when two guys that are constantly wearing plaid shirts get together for a few beers?  Well, they come up with the idea to do a talk show all about plaid that’s shot entirely on iPhones, of course!  The show is called Plaid Forever and it launched today on Tumblr.

Plaid Forever is the brainchild of Michael Krivicka of Thinkmodo and his friend Andrew—two plaid loving guys that live in New York.  Michael told me via email, “It all started with Andrew and I.  We are great friends and are constantly wearing plaid shirts.  One day we thought: let’s do a plaid themed website!  The idea was very broad at first and then we narrowed it down to a talk-show type format that will live on the web.”

They launched the show today, along with an awesome Plaid Rap video where a bunch of plaid-clad guys walk through the streets throwing plaid gang signs and rapping about, well, plaid!  Michael says, “We knew we needed something to kick off the whole thing so I started writing some lyrics and created Plaid Rap.  I teamed up with some super talented people: Joe Cummings and Josh Johnson.  Joe is an actor I once worked with before and I actually had no idea he had these rapping skills.”  The video was shot all over NYC.

The first episode of the Plaid Forever talk show is an interview with Joe Cummings and Josh Johnson—the plaid rappers.  One of the coolest things about the show is the format—it’s shot entirely on iPhones with the guests actually holding the camera!

Michael says, “We knew we had to give the show a fresh twist (besides the plaid theme) and we came up with the idea to have the guests to become camera operators as well.  That adds an interesting aesthetic to each episode, which will always be presented in a multi-split-screen, depending on hoe many people are in the scene.  The idea has of course practical reasons as well: we don’t need a crew (no cameras, no mics, no lights – we can shoot anytime, anywhere).  So the over-all aesthetic is very raw and we like that.”

Michael told me, “More episodes and fun productions are in the pipeline for Plaid Forever.  We are already editing Episode 2 and are lining up more fun guests to appear on our crazy show.”  Are you ready for more plaid?  Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
