Strange Tweets Are Afoot
Twitter acknowledged that some users are receiving tweets from random users, saying on the Twitter Status page:
Some users are seeing tweets (that aren’t retweets) from users they do not follow. We have a Known Issues page with more information, and we are working on fixing the underlying cause.
TechCrunch reported that Twitter wants users to be sure that they’re not confusing random tweets with new-style retweets, adding that some users are also experiencing random text-message alerts due to the issue, as many users set up Twitter to send an SMS every time users they follow send a tweet.
