Snowden Wants to Develop Anti-Surveillance Technologies

Several presentations at the HOPE hacker conference focused on technologies to impede government surveillance.

Edward Snowden told hundreds of developers at the Hackers On Planet Earth (HOPE) conference in New York City over the weekend that he intends to spend his time promoting technologies that counter international government surveillance programs.

He called on hackers to accelerate those efforts and create programs that let people communicate anonymously and encrypt their messages.

Snowden is considered a hero by a large part of the hacker community. The former U.S. spy agency contractor spoke to a packed room on video from Moscow, where he fled after leaking details of major U.S.
